Should I be Worried about Contaminated Drinking Water?

Lately my interest has been drawn to the subject of contaminated drinking water. There’s no getting away from the fact that we must drink the stuff to stay alive and for our body to perform many vital functions. We get told that we must drink at least eight cups.

Whether we do or don’t the focus should be on consuming water as clean and pure as possible. How have we got to this stage and what are some of the solutions? This article will examine some of the background details.

One very simple question I often get asked is how can I tell if I have contaminated drinking water? It’s an obvious question and worthy of an obvious answer. I try to boil it down to three things, odors, unusual colors and tastes, particularly a metallic taste to it. I’d have to add here that nothing is ever that cut and dried as there are contaminants that can go undetected.

Bear in mind that water itself is a natural solvent and thus able to absorb many impurities like chemicals and bacteria, which is why it might taste or smell funny. It should be within the scope of all of us to aim to eliminate all such impurities.

Well, in today’s marketplace it’s easier than you might have thought with home solutions that don’t cost the earth.

However, if you work in an office environment at all you may be well aware of one solution namely drinking water stations. They tend to offer an economical alternative to bottled water, which would be too expensive in the long run and cleaner, tastier than the tap variety.

Many also have a twin tap option letting you choose between cold or room temperature and hot water for making hot drinks.

Some of them can be fitted neatly under the sink and remain unobtrusive, with a choice of filter options to suit your own particular needs. In addition, the good news is that most of us notice the difference in cleaner, fresher water.

Peter Foremski is Editor of and cares passionately about the quality of water that he drinks and uses. You too can share in that information on where to find the best water filtration products So for purer, cleaner water begin your ‘thirst’ for knowledge here.
